听 vs 听见 vs 倾听

Similar and easily confused words, and how they differ.

• 听见 tīng jiàn to hear

  听 is actively listening; 听见 is the result — a sound reached your ears. 没听见 means 'didn't catch that'.

• 倾听 qīng tīng to listen attentively

  Formal: listening carefully to someone — 倾听意见 'listen to feedback'. Not the everyday 'listen'.
