你 vs 您 vs 你们 vs 你的

Similar and easily confused words, and how they differ.

• 您 nín you (polite)

  The respectful form, built from 你 + 心 'heart' — for elders, customers, formal settings. There is no 您们; say 你们 or 各位 for plural.

• 你们 nǐ men you (plural)

  你 + plural 们 = 'you all'. 你 alone is singular.

• 你的 nǐ de your; yours

  你 + possessive 的. Subject 'you' vs possessive 'your'.
