追 vs 赶 vs 追求

Similar and easily confused words, and how they differ.

• 赶 gǎn to catch up; to rush

  赶 = hurrying to catch something scheduled — 赶火车 'catch a train'. 追 = pursuing something that flees — 追小偷.

• 追求 zhuī qiú to pursue (goals, love)

  Compound 'pursue' for ambitions and romance — 追求梦想 'chase dreams'. Not physical running.
