一 vs 壹 vs 幺

• 壹 yī one (formal/financial)

  The anti-fraud capital form used on checks and contracts — 壹佰元 'one hundred yuan'. 一 is everyday.

• 幺 yāo one (in phone numbers)

  Read yāo in phone, room and serial numbers to keep yī distinct from qī — 110 is yāo yāo líng.
